Crissy Field

Narrative:

A former military grass airfield that was taken over by the National Park Service in 1994, and incorporated into Golden Gate National Recreation Area. What was once described as a “derelict concrete wasteland” is now a full service recreation area. The park has 130 acres of salt marsh and estuaries, a sandy beach, spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands, a lovely promenade for walking and biking extending from Fort Point to Marina Green, an environmental education center for youth, and the Beach Hut Café.
